AVIR Chapters

Depending on where you live, there may be a Chapter already, but you can still be involved. The Chapter listings have been updated with  current contact information, so  feel free to e-mail the Chapter Representative in your area or region to inquire about upcoming meetings or events.  The process of starting a Chapter has a few requirements.  Evaluating interest amongst your peers, whether within your institution,  city or region is a first step.  Networking this interest through the AVIR and industry sponsors can help promote an increased awareness, and potential members. Reviewing the AVIR Chapter manual will also be necessary, as there are reporting requirements, CE application, and sponsorship information essential in having successful events.   Selecting  leadership, and  organizing formal or informal meetings to discuss possible events and delegating the tasks that go along with  AVIR sponsored CE presentations is  important. Communicating those discussions and events to your constituents is important as well.

Policy Summary

AVIR Chapters Responsibilities:

1. Provide educational meetings.
2. Maintain Active Chapter status by meeting Association criteria.
3. Adhere to the Standards Code of Conduct (section 4.200).

Implementation Procedure

1. Gaining AVIR Chapter Status:

• Submit required electronic paperwork to the AVIR Board of Directors.
  • Complete forms: “Request for Chapter Status” (Form S), “Leadership Data File” (Form R), and “Logo Approval”.
• Have at least one active AVIR member in good standing on the organizing committee/board.
• Govern by AVIR Bylaws.
• Non-compliance with Bylaws results in probationary status.
  • Probation for more than two years leads to inactive status.
• Communications can be sent electronically.

2. Educational Meetings:

• Provide a minimum of three (3) CEUs annually.
  • Can be accomplished through:
    • One three-hour meeting.
    • Three one-hour meetings.
    • Joint meetings with other AVIR Chapters or organizations.
• Chapters not meeting educational standards will be reviewed by the Director-at-Large and may be considered inactive.
  • Inactive status notifications will be provided by the Association President.
• Submit “Leadership Data File” (Form R) annually, with notifications sent by mail when due.

3. Reinstating Active Status:

• Submit:
  • “Leadership Data File” (Form R)
  • “Request for Chapter Status” (Form S)
  • Names and contact information of board/committee members.
  • A written plan for future goals and meetings.
• The AVIR Board of Directors will evaluate and reinstate Active Chapter status when criteria are met.
