Miami Chapter Re-Opens Yesterday

May 16 2013 by Izzy Ramaswamy

The Miami AVIR Chapter had their first meeting in many years yesterday in the Conference facility at the Baptist Cardiac & Vascular Institute. We had a reasonable turnout even though Miami Heat and the Miami Angio Club were also scheduled the same day which impacted our attendance. We still had a great kick-off meeting, and a great discussion for moving forward. We will be providing monthly opportunities for our members to come be educated and meet their colleagues and hope to get the word out through our close community of vendors that travel between the local facilities as well as through email and our chapter website.

Yesterday, we elected Roberto Telleria RT R CV, CT as our Chapter President, as many of our members know, Mr. Telleria was the recipient of the AVIR Excellence Award presented at our annual meeting in New Orleans. We will also be electing the officers in meetings to come. We welcome any one to apply for these available positions. We look forward to growing our membership and getting to know the community of IR staff in South Florida.

I would also like to thank Bayer Healthcare / Medrad for their sponsership and CE lecture for yesterdays meeting. We appreciate all you do for us. See you all next month.

Thank you for attending the Mobile Aspects Symposium in New Orleans. I hope you found it informative and educational. If you were at the conference and missed it or weren’t able to make the conference altogether I want to share some facts with you that is “good to know” information for the times were are in right now in healthcare for you to share with your colleagues and leadership.

As you know Interventional Radiology departments are expected to produce a substantial amount of a hospital’s revenue. Through significant changes like the Affordable Care Act, mergers and acquisitions, etc., hospitals will be forced to reduce expenses and make significant changes in how they operate. It will prove hard to deal with those changes and be prepared for the present and the future without the right tools in place.

Example:

Look at the flip phone, it makes calls and texts, but the Smartphone gives you access to the Internet, email, etc. – a plethora of information, at any given moment.

In some scenario’s this technology can potentially generate $100k in additional revenue per 50 procedures and Mobile Aspects’ consulting experts have graciously offered to do a FREE onsite hospital analysis for all AVIR members to see what your specific revenue could be. This onsite analysis includes: a site visit of your department, a general financial evaluation – to see how/where you can generate revenue as well as save money, and a few general questions about your department.

All you have to do is contact Tommy Stern, and provide your volume of IR procedures, at 214-529-6325 or tommy.stern@mobileaspects.com to set up your onsite analysis or to learn more.

Follow Correy Maher and Bruce Foster and support Team Hope as they ride from Providence to Washington, DC to raise funds for two great organizations dedicated to fighting cancer.

A pair of Roger Williams Medical Center employees — Correy Maher and Bruce Foster — have formed Team HOPE (Helping Other People Endure) and will ride their bicycles from Providence to Washington, DC on the weekend of May 3. Their goal is to raise as much money as possible for Roger Williams Cancer Center and the American Cancer Society.

When they’re not training for endurance races or spending time with their families, Correy and Bruce are taking care of patients in the Interventional Radiology Department at Roger Williams Medical Center.
