Friday, March 1st marked the University of Maryland Medical center‘s 2nd Annual Skills Day. This event was conveniently scheduled from 7 a.m. -9 a.m. on a work day to coincide with the IR doctors’ tumor board meeting and morning rounds. Thirteen vendors proudly displayed and explained their latest products just for the Technologists and Nurses. It is extremely important for everyone in the lab to be familiar with the products and their uses. The vendors understand that the technologists can be an advocate for their product and have it readily available for the appropriate case. Not all IR sections have inventory meetings, therefore, not all IR physicians are aware of new products and their uses-that is when the technologists can be invaluable and make suggestions.
Skills Day will continue to be a part of UMMS’ IR commitment to quality patient care through continuous learning, as well as a day full of camaraderie. A special thanks going out to Laura (AVIR’s newest member) and Robin for putting together yet another successful Skills Day! We are also very thankful to all the vendors that supported UMMS continuing education efforts:
Care Fusion, Minx, Boston Scientific, Active Medical, New England Medical, Surefire, Abbott Vascular, Covidien, AngioDynamics, Possis, Volcano and EV3 .
Also Connie, Lora, Pam, Anne and Melanie for their demonstrations. Great work ladies!
